I am asking you the Members of Congress for an Invitation to Deliver this message to a Joint Session. We as a Nation are in peril! The precedent for this was set when General Douglas MacArthur was invited to address a joint session of Congress, as a Private Citizen. To the Congress of the United States of America: Honorable Members The circumstances and conditions that bring me before you are so injurious to the basic principles of man that it is of global importance. It does not matter if we are talking about property rights in the United States of America or the rights of a tribal farmer in a remote community of Africa. The right to own a piece of land, to use it for personal benefit, to not be endangered or threatened by anyone in government, to live peaceably is so basic a necessity to insure a free and productive people that it is inconceivable that any part of our Bureaucracy would take that away. No animal of the land, fowl of the air, or fish of the sea, should be put above the right of man to live on his own piece of property. In doing so you have negated the order of God and of Nature. The eating of animals, fish and fowl is as instinctive as breathing. Endangered Species need a balance of management so that by their own natures they do not diminish other species. Seal pelts need to be taken for man's use, however, not so aggressively as to destroy their existence. In doing so that population would not be so enlarged as to overfeed ocean fish which return to rivers and streams for natural spawning. How did we get to this point that private property and the values that are Constitutionally given to us are now a breath away from being negated? It really is quite simple. We the people of the United States of America in order to ensure ourselves with idle free time, negated our social responsibility to the needy in our local communities, abolishing County Orphanages, Free Health Clinics, and the Care of the sick and interned. We then said someone else can do this in our name and gave that responsibility to OUR federal government. We did not realize that if you are not personally responsible for the making and the implementation of law in all areas of life on the County Community Level than you are no longer FREE. It is only on this basic level that laws can be made to suit the individual and the diverse needs of all the people in this Great Nation. What happens when you defuse the Governing body to the local level? Let's take education as the prime example. You have more teachers in the classroom. You have more one on one education. You have independent thinking and self-reliance being developed in our young people. You have them develop the imagination to continue to explore worlds yet unseen. You have them prepared to want to find their way by further educating themselves in areas that foster the well being of a productive world society. If you took all those educators and their support staffs that tell you how your child needs to be taught and put them back into the classroom we would have a wonderful educational system. The Bureaucracy has reached a point where they have grown beyond the good of the land to a point that to prove to their own inadequate egos they have to continually come up with new ideas to prove to themselves that they know more because they are educated than what is instinctively known by the parent for the good of their family. How did we as a people become so arrogant that we did not stop you before you let this happen? We became exploited by you, members. Our own greed took precedence over our own Nation. Senator Robert Bird of West Virginia, as Chairman of the National Department of Transportation Committee, has seen fit to see that the small state of West Virginia has received over one third of the Nations road budget. Farmers in some states have been paid to not plant crops. Many times they wouldn't have planted that crop regardless, but it was a means for more money. Subsidies in the sheep industry, pay for wool above the going rate. Dairy farmers have their milk prices held high by government subsidy and retired federal employees who think nothing of hiring back on project or hourly wages. The list goes on, and on, and on... We all wanted something for nothing. How do we reverse this process that has lead to the corruption of us all? From the rent subsidy programs for the landlord, to the gratuities, retirement benefits and contributions you members of Congress seem to think you deserve. You and the people together have prostituted us and our nation to the highest bidder. This time the highest bidder is that body called the United Nations, which seems to think that it's very existence and survival depend on the designation of each nation's sovereignty and the collective policing of us all. First we need to realize as a Nation that this is going to be the most brutal fight of our Nation's existence. For if we are to endure as a Nation, we must become responsible for ourselves on the Community level. State government can no longer mandate to local communities and neither can Federal Government mandate to States, on the issues of health, education, welfare, endangered species to name just a few. Laws effecting social issues have to be protected in the courts with the spirit and intent balancing the letter of the law, for law enacted without spirit is tyrannical. As a people, we must evaluate what we are willing to give up. We have chased materialism to the point that we have put ourselves on the treadmill of work, commute, work, to a frenzy that has pushed corporate incomes out of sight for a few while enslaving the masses. You think you are better off? In the early 1900's a man for the first twenty years of his life became educated and established in a trade or profession. The next twenty years of his life, he paid for his home and property. The next twenty years of his life he saved for his old age. The last twenty years of his life he spent what he had acquired. This was not just the wealthy; this was the attitude of all the people. You say that cannot happen in this day and age. I point to two young people that are in their thirties, one a cook in the United States Coast Guard. Through prudent planning and working to improve his property, he has purchased a modest 3-bedroom home and has no mortgage. His wife does not work. Another young man, a teacher, whose wife stays home to raise their children, taught himself how to build homes. He built a family home, and has just finished a duplex apartment to augment his teaching wages. He had also worked his way through college and in the process acquired more education than books could ever teach. Both these young men are caring and thoughtful of those in need. They treat all who walk through their lives with respect and dignity for they have those qualities for themselves. (One of these young men has the dream of owning a truck with a plow on the front so that he can plow the driveways for the elderly without them knowing who may have done it.) What a small but wonderful service to a neighbor. Yes each of us is going to have to change. We are going to have to weigh the difference with what a runaway appetite for materialism will ultimate truly get us, and the simplistic lifestyle that has great satisfaction and personal rewards. Most of my fellow citizens would cast their vote for insuring the basic principles that form our governing bodies, Freedom to Worship, Freedom to life, Freedom to pursue Happiness, and Freedom to Own Property without interference. Mr. President, you need to be reminded that your job description is supposed to keep the people informed about what laws Congress was passing so that the People could exert the proper influence to see that this government worked for their benefit. Congress, your job is not to regulate, intimidate, or interfere, but to simply see that all the people had the protection and rights of the Constitution to insure that no President through Executive Order would negate our Constitutional Rights. The Judicial branch is to balance the Spirit and Intent with the Letter of Law that the well being of all the people would be protected, regardless of wealth or power. Remember that law with out the spirit is tyranny. We all have neglected our responsibility while enlarging our own petty insecure egos. You have forgotten and abandoned the Constitution of the United States of America to which you were sworn to uphold and protect. I beg of you stop and think, before it is too late. Repeal the power of regulation through the publishing in the Federal Register. Repeal the power of Executive Order by acting on Executive Orders quickly and decisively. Take back the integrity of this great institution and by doing so ensure the preservation of the Republic of the United States of America. Respectfully submitted, Nancy E. Gregg Note: I have asked in my letter to you, the Members of Congress, for an Invitation to give this address at a joint session. It needs to be done at a time when the American people can hear what is at stake, so that we as a people will have the resolve to turn ourselves around and insure the continuation of the sovereignty of our Nation. |
